Travel Times and Insider Tips

  • You might not be familiar with New York City’s geography, but since the Javits Convention Center is located in the Manhattan borough and JFK is in Queens, you’ll need to give yourself at least 90 minutes to get to the airport from your trade show.

  • Familiarize yourself with the on-site AirTrain system to easily commute between terminals.

  • The airport’s homepage has real-time updates on how long it’ll take you to get through security and walk to your gate, so pull up their website on your phone as you make your way to JFK.

Top Places to Eat

New York is known for all kinds of delicacies. Instead of grabbing some fast food that you can get anywhere, stop by Artichoke Pizza for a true New York slice or a sweet treat from the city’s popular Baked By Melissa.

If you’re looking for a sit-down meal, get a table at The Palm Bar & Grille, which is the airport location of the famous Manhattan steakhouse.

Things to Do

  • Visit the iconic TWA Hotel, which features museum exhibits and the unique Twister Room.

  • Get a massage at BeRelax, Xpres Recover, Xpres Spa, or Xpres Treat.

  • Take a nap or just get some privacy inside a sleep pod

Souvenirs and Other Things to Buy

Trade shows are hectic, so many exhibitors and attendees don’t get to see all the sights and do all the shopping they were hoping to during their time in New York. Fortunately, JFK hosts some of the biggest fashion shops so you can show off some new threads when you get home.

World-famous brands like Coach, Hugo Boss, Kate Spade, and Michael Kors all have stores inside the airport.

Oddities and Fun Facts

  • In addition to being a hub for passenger air travel, JFK also handles over 1.5 million tons of cargo transportation each year.

  • Much of the airport is built on top of an old landfill.
