Orlando, Florida: Orlando International Airport (MCO)

It’s always a little bittersweet when an Orlando, FL trade show draws to a close. Sure, it’s nice to leave the convention itself in the rearview mirror, but who wants to leave the Sunshine State’s weather and attractions? If you’re traveling through the Orlando International Airport (MCO), you’ll feel like you’re extending your trip just a little bit. At over 12,000 acres, it’s one of the biggest airports in the United States, and it’s brimming with things to do for the more than 34 million people who fly through the hub each year.

Travel Times and Insider Tips

  • You’ll only need about 20 minutes to drive from the Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) to MCO.

  • The airport’s homepage features real-time security waits and suggested arrival times.

Top Places to Eat

When you’re passing the time before your plane departs, sip on some local beers and munch on Orlando-area favorites at Orange County Brewers or Orlando Brewing. For additional southern fare, stop by one of the multiple locations of Cask & Larder, or grab some good, old-fashioned greasy spoon eats at Sunshine Diner.

Things to Do

  • Visit B-52 Memorial Park, which is open to the public.

  • Breathe in the benefits of local flora in Terminal C’s Palm Court.

  • Take a moment to yourself in a reflection room or serenity room.

  • Get a little help relaxing before your long international flight with a massage at Terminal Gateway Spa or XpresSpa.

Souvenirs and Other Things to Buy

Even if you weren’t able to get to any of Orlando’s world-famous theme parks during your stay, you can still pick up some great gifts and souvenirs at the airport’s Universal Orlando, Magic of Disney, SeaWorld, or Walt Disney World Store locations. MCO also offers travelers a wide variety of other markets and souvenir vending machines, so there’s truly something for everyone.

Oddities and Fun Facts

  • The airport code (MCO) recognizes McCoy Air Force Base, a flight training site that was closed in 1970 before the land became Orlando’s airport.

  • MCO is conveniently located within a two-hour drive for more than 60% of Florida’s population.
